Smart cooling for a hotter future: how LHS helped a UAE hospital lower energy costs and improve comfort

In the Middle East, buildings are under constant pressure—from rising temperatures, growing energy demands, and the need to meet sustainability goals. For hospitals, the challenge is even greater. Comfort can’t be compromised, and cooling systems often work overtime to maintain safe indoor environments.

At Leading Hospitality Services (LHS), we believe smarter, passive solutions are the future. This came to life at Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital (SKSH) in Fujairah, UAE. The hospital faced common regional issues: excessive heat gain, high AC use, occupant discomfort, glare, and UV damage.

Our team proposed a non-invasive solution: iFilm, a solar control window film that blocks infrared radiation while maintaining clear views. A trial showed a 95% reduction in solar transmission, and full implementation followed—covering 650 m² of glass in just seven days with zero disruption to hospital operations.

The results were measurable:

The solution is expected to save over 104,000 kWh of energy annually, with estimated cost savings of between AED 30,000 and AED 40,000—just from the application around the lobby area. It also contributes to a reduction of 42 tons of CO₂ emissions. Indoors, the environment is now cooler, more comfortable, and better protected.

More than a successful installation, this project reflects the growing need for passive cooling technologies like iFilm and iPaint across the region. These aren’t just green solutions—they’re smart business decisions that reduce strain, lower costs, and improve lives.

At LHS, we’re proud to deliver innovation tailored for the Middle East—solutions that work with the climate, not against it.
